Never stop dreaming – by Roshni Gupta

Meet Me- Roshni Gupta- a proud daughter of world’s best parents, a happy mother of two
beautiful daughters, a blessed wife of world’s best husband and a self-driven Woman with
high dreams!

I am basically from Shahdol (MP), pursued my graduation in B.com & then MBA. After
completing my studies I immediately got an opportunity to work as a Recruiter. I was just
learning recruitment & was planning to pursue this as my career but before I could take the
next jump in my career, I got married! Before I could understand the responsibilities of
marriage, I became a mother! All I could see was my dreams fading away somewhere in
midst of my juggle-muggle. My focus shifted to my family’s responsibilities. The only
dedication was to be the best wife and the best mother. To take full responsibility to keep my
family happy all the time. This was a new found happiness and I was engrossed in it
completely that I forgot about my own dreams. But I always felt that void. I could feel people
around me are so happy and so content but why am I not? I am working for my family all day
long without any time limits, without any sick leave and my pay is their smiling faces. Yes it’s
all worth but what about the emptiness I keep feeling inside?

Being a homemaker is perhaps one of the most stressful and underrated jobs of all times.
Imagine working full time, juggling with tons of responsibilities and yet being looked down
upon just because you don’t work out of a cubical from nine-to-five. No one values your time,
everyone takes you as granted because you are always available for them (freely). It started
hurting me. I started questioning myself – is this an example I am setting for my daughters? I
have to show them my individual identity too!

One day when I was having me-time conversing & thinking all of these with myself, I closed
my eyes to calm my nerves and suddenly went into a flash back when my mother’s words
struck me. She used to tell me since my childhood “It won’t take ages to learn how to handle your home but it takes all this age to make your career”

Boom..!! She was right. Why?

Your career will make you independent in this men dominant society. You will have your own
money and thus power. Not every time you have to ask your father or husband or later your
children for the same. With times ‘asking’ becomes ‘begging’. You will gain unsaid
confidence and can equally contribute in home decisions. You can support your
husband/family financially as men are not ATM machines. Men are not born to provide and
protect you always. Similarly, Women are not born to do household chores, cooking and
take care of family alone. My first role model is my mother. The part that really influenced me
as a young girl was her belief around women and girls being able to take on any challenge
without fear. This was a lesson that helped.

And then I opened my eyes & shared all this with my husband. He said “It’s never too late to
start something new, to do all those things that you’ve been longing to do”. I found a shift in
my spirit with new hope, new strength and new confidence. I immediately started hunting for
options and here it comes- I received a call from TenaSHEous! Ms. Khyati Naigandhi –
