Sky is (NOT) the Limit! – by Sonam Shenai

I started my career at the age of 18 to take care of my own expenses, so that my father who has 3 daughters is less financially burdened. With the grace of God, I had a great start to my career in aviation with a well-known airlines. While I was enjoying the initial 2 years of my career the organisation – Kingfisher airlines was on the verge of a complete shutdown & I didn’t receive salary for 6 months. With a heavy heart I had to leave aviation & choose another industry. Being a fighter & with ‘a never give up’ attitude just like my parents I continued my search n stepped into a new industry of automobile.

Initially it proved to be difficult to adjust but eventually I discovered my new mission, & with luck’s favour I also excelled & earned accolades. Since then, I’ve never had to look back. My career soared new heights as I gradually started working in the booming digital marketing. While at the peak of my career where everything seemed smooth, I lost my dear father-in-law. Everything started falling apart at home – managing the house, leaving my loving mother-in-law alone at home was difficult who was so close to her husband. I delivered my daughter a year later post which it became difficult for my mother-in-law to handle things as she was aging too n didn’t want to be left alone.

I was going to be promoted and that was the time I had to tie my wide colourful wings back, give up a decade long flourishing career to be with my beautiful family who had given me so much of love & care always.

It was indeed difficult just being at home & not going to work, & even more pinching was the fact I ended up being financial dependent on my husband. I always hesitated to buy things as I had to ask from him (although he never ever refused for anything) as I had always been financially independent since I was 18.

We always read n hear that women are multitaskers & yes, we are! I believe we can do multiple things at a time, be it juggling between kids, household work, keeping the family together along with our careers. We can manage all our responsibilities simultaneously. However, all along a women is expected to choose other priorities & the one thing to give up for most of us women is our “CAREER”. As women, it’s almost “A must” choose between our personal responsibilities & career. So was the case with me. I too was in such a situation where I had to choose between my family responsibilities & my career. More so, it was happily, that I chose my family which included my adorable little 9 months young baby.

But God is great and always has beautiful plans for us. My friend and ex colleague introduced me to a women-oriented organisation – “TenaSHEous”. A company led by a tenacious woman Ms. Khyati Udeshi Naigandhi along with other determined women just like me. By the grace of my spiritual teacher (Guru) & God, I got another chance to re-start my career. And what a beautiful kick start it was! It was Khyati who gave me wings the much-needed push and helped me to fly again! She is the one who filled those beautiful colours back in them, gave them more strength to fly higher & higher. One best part is when she teaches us to fly, she also makes sure you are grounded & stay connected to your roots.

What a beautiful blessing TenaSHEous is to my life! Joining here made me stronger, confident, and finally financially independent, all without asking me to choose between my career n family.

My genuine message to all the women reading this would be – “Never Ever Give up” in your life at any situation. You never know when God will send something special to make things work for you. It is your tenacity which will make you a TenaSHEous woman! It is just a matter of one step – just take that step, spread your wings, and fly again. Remember: No one can give you wings; we already have them; we just need that push to fly again. I got that push from Ms. Khyati who has filled them with beautiful colours

Ik Zindagi Meri Sau Khwaisha…Ik Ik me puri kara” (One life 100 wishes, will fulfil each n everyone)
